Our Sweet Impact
The global chocolate industry is at crossroads. While demand soars, traditional practices often compromise both quality and sustainability.
At PRIDI, we believe exceptional chocolate must honor both its origins and its future. Crafting sustainable, responsible chocolate is one of our motivating values. Every decision – from our mindful bean selection to our artisanal crafting process – reflects this philosophy. When we respect cacao's essence and its cultivators, extraordinary flavors emerge.
This is how we create Thailand's finest chocolate: where purpose meets precision, and luxury finds its conscience.
Collaborating with Thailand’s cacao farmers not only results in delicious, unique bean flavors, but encourages the development of a sustainable industry.
-
PRIDI prioritizes direct relationships with Thai farmers, paying them fair prices for cacao beans, roughly 200% above global market rates. This is in stark contrast to the practices in other cocoa producing countries, where many cocoa farmers are trapped in poverty, earning less than living wages due to low global market prices. Our approach ensures that farmers receive a better income for their labor.
-
PRIDI supports the development of a new approach to chocolate production in Thailand, keeping the value on the ground and in the soil. This contrasts with the established cocoa trade in many other countries, where cocoa is grown in plantations. PRIDI's support helps to create a new system where the value of the product stays with the producers.
-
Rather than relying on certifications, PRIDI prioritizes personal relationships with farmers, conducting regular farm visits and quality control. At PRIDI, we find that these practices result in a better guarantee of sustainability and quality than existing certifications.
-
In Thailand, cocoa trees grow alongside other fruit trees like durian, mango, and mangosteen, creating a unique co-living space. These conditions help to prevent pests and fungi problems, and also contribute to the development of unique fruit flavors in the chocolate. Unlike the monoculture plantations in many other regions, where intensive cultivation leads to diseases and pest infestation, this co-living practice produces healthier beans. PRIDI is committed to supporting this unusual growing practice, recognizing that "happy trees make exceptional beans".
Our care for each ingredient starts with cacao beans, but extends throughout the entire supply chain.
-
PRIDI chocolate is handcrafted in small batches with care and precision at every step, from growing to the finished product. Unlike large-scale commercial production, we never use bulk plantation beans.
-
PRIDI chocolate is made with simple ingredients: cacao beans and organic certified raw sugar. It does not contain additives, emulsifiers, or modified fats, which are common in mass-market chocolates. This aligns with a focus on natural, minimally processed products that let the unique bean flavors shine through.
-
PRIDI emphasizes a short supply chain, from soil to chocolate. We envision a future where more chocolate makers work directly with farmers, similar to the wine industry.
-
PRIDI seeks to use local and sustainable ingredients in our chocolate, including different types of sugar like coconut and palm sugar, as well as other ingredients, like nuts, coffee, berries, and coconut milk. Click here learn more about PRIDI’s ingredients.
